Jordan Smith

Smith was born on November 4, 1993, in Whitley County, Kentucky, to Kelley and Geri Smith (née, Saylor), who are musicians, and they raised him in the church choir at a young age, in the congregation of House of Mercy in the town of Wallins Creek, Kentucky. Graduated from Harlan County High School.

In 2012, he won the Poke Sallet Idol competition at the annual Poke Sallet Festival.

Smith has attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, and been a member of the Lee University Campus Choir.[5]

 

Smith came to national attention in 2015, with his participation in season nine of NBC's The Voice, where he turned all four chairs during the auditions when he chose to be part of Adam Levine's team on the show. His rendition of the song "Great Is Thy Faithfulness", during week two of the live shows, charted on the Billboard magazine charts, where it placed at No. 30 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was No. 1 on the Christian Songs chart for two weeks straight.  Smith again entered at No. 1 with his recording of "Hallelujah". On the November 30, 2015, Billboard Hot 100 chart, Smith opened at No. 61 with his cover of "Hallelujah".

Smith was declared the winner of season nine, earning $100,000, a Republic Records recording contract and a Nissan Altima car. Smith had teamed up with Usher and sangDavid Guetta's "Without You".
